Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Plant daily decay group
Biomass reduction factor from declining LAI today:
Today's biomass reduction factor from decreased photosynthetic
efficiency because of declining leaf area index (LAI). This factor
reduces the new biomass created today through photosynthesis.
Biomass lost from frost and day length today: The amount of
plant biomass (dry weight) that has been lost (died) today because of the combined effects of frost and
limited day length.
Biomass reduction factor from frost and day length combined today: Today's winter biomass die-
off factor, considering the effects of declining day length and frost (the worst factor determines the
damage). This factor reduces the live biomass of plants not suited to the climate. Young plants are the
most susceptible.
Biomass reduction factor from day length today: Today's biomass reduction factor considering
only the affect of declining day length. A value of 1.0 is worst (this is for amount lost). This factor is
considered together with the frost factor to produce a combined winter die-off factor.
Biomass reduction factor from frost today: Today's biomass reduction factor considering only the
affect of frost. A value of 1.0 is worst (since this is for amount lost). This factor is considered together
with the day length factor to produce a combined winter die-off factor.
Snow cover factor for frost kill today: A factor from zero to one that buffers this plant from death by frost (because snow buffers the temperature
of the soil surface). The more snow on the ground, the smaller the likelihood that the plant will die.
Biomass lost from water stress today: The amount of plant
biomass (dry weight) that has been lost (died) today because of the effect of water stress (dry soil). Water
stress is so important that it affects both new and existing growth. Damage increases with plant age.
Biomass lost from fruit decay
today: The amount of plant biomass (dry weight) that has been lost (died) today because of fruit
decay.
Biomass lost from falling leaves (if tree) today: The amount of plant biomass (dry weight) that
has been lost (died) today because this plant is a tree and leaves have fallen from it. (The tree model in this version has not been tested.)
