Percolation is the downward movement of water through the soil because of gravity. If you think of soil like a sponge, percolation is like what happens when you leave a wet sponge on a countertop -- the water leaks out the bottom.

In this simulation percolation depends on saturated conductivity, field capacity, porosity, and soil water content.
