Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil daily N losses group

Ammonia lost in eroded soil today: The amount of ammonia lost in the soil eroded by water and wind erosion today.

Volatilization today by layer: Volatilization is the loss of ammonium ions (NH4+) to the atmosphere. Increased by high soil temperature (ions are more active), low cation exchange capacity (ions are not held), low soil water (more air space), and proximity to the soil surface.

N as nitrate lost in eroded soil today: The amount of nitrate lost in the soil eroded by water and wind erosion today.

Denitrification today by layer: Denitrification is the conversion of soil nitrate to ammonia due by anaerobic bacteria, which thrive when the soil is waterlogged. Depends on soil water content and to a lesser extent on soil temperature and organic matter.

N as nitrate leached from percolation today by layer: Nitrate N lost from each soil layer through its solution in water that percolated down through the soil today.

N as nitrate leached from sub-surface flow today by layer: Nitrate N lost from each soil layer through its solution in water that moved through the soil in lateral (horizontal) flow beneath the soil surface today.

N as nitrate lost in runoff today: Nitrate N lost from the soil patch through its solution in water that ran off the surface of the soil today.

N total uptake by plants today: The total amount of nitrate taken up by all plants in this soil patch today.

N as active organic lost in eroded soil today: The amount of nitrogen loosely bound in organic compounds lost in the soil eroded by water and wind erosion today.

N as stable organic in humus lost in eroded soil today: The amount of nitrogen tightly bound in organic compounds lost in the soil eroded by water and wind erosion today.

N as fresh organic in flat residue lost in eroded soil today: The amount of fresh organic N in the flat residue lost in the soil eroded by water and wind erosion today.
